TFP Farrells designed the tower, which the article calls the tallest building ever designed by a British architect, with Arup as structural engineer. Kingkey Group developed it. Construction started on October 22, 2007, it was completed on September 21, 2011, and it opened on November 23, 2011.

The architectural height is 1,450 feet (442 m), and the top floor and observatory stand at 1,401 feet (427 m). The article gives a height-to-width ratio of 9.5 to 1. It describes 74 office floors, 26 hotel floors for the St. Regis, and a top section with a garden and restaurants. The infobox says 100 floors, while the lead says 98. The article gives no facade materials or structural system.

The infobox lists 66 elevators, while the text describes four serving the first to 96th floors at 9 meters per second. An observatory is near the top, and the article gives no ticketing details.
