King Ludwig II of Bavaria commissioned the house from Georg von Dollmann, and it was built from 1869 to 1872. The infobox calls it a hunting lodge, but the text says Ludwig never used it for hunting and calls it a small villa. The infobox lists timber framing. The article describes a modest alpine chalet exterior and an overloaded Oriental interior on the upper floor, centered on the Turkish or Moorish Room.
It has two floors. It can be reached only by a 10 kilometer forest road or a three-hour hike with about 1,000 meters of ascent. The adjacent Alpengarten covers about a hectare at roughly 2,000 meters altitude and is open daily in summer.
UNESCO inscribed it in 2025 as part of The Palaces of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The article names no owner.
