The article gives the build date as the 17th century in the lead and the 17th to 18th century in the infobox, and names no builder or architect. The style is a mix of Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical. It is a central plan with a nave and four aisles of uneven height, supported outside by buttresses and flying buttresses, with a dome over the transept. The article gives no materials or dimensions.

Inside are a Virgin Mary by Francisco de Zurbarán and a late 15th-century Gothic crucifix, the Cristo de la Viga. The article does not say how a Gothic crucifix relates to the later building.

It was raised to cathedral rank on March 3, 1980, as the seat of the Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural on June 3, 1931.
