The Jameh Mosque of Varamin near Tehran was begun under Sultan Mohammad Khodabaneh and completed in 1322 or 1323 under his son Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan. Izz al-Din al-Quhadhi commissioned the present structure, and an inscription on the eastern porch credits Ali Qazvini as architect. The dome was added in 1325 or 1326. The style is Ilkhanid, with Timurid also listed.
The mosque is a rectangle of about 217 by 141 feet (66 by 43 meters) with a four-iwan layout, built of brick, plaster and tile. The single dome is about 77 feet (23.5 meters) tall and 34 feet (10.5 meters) across on the outside, rising from a square chamber through octagonal and hexagonal forms.
Archaeologists excavated the site in the 1960s and 1970s, and it was restored in the 1980s. It has been on Iran's National Heritage List since 1932.
