Letohrádek Hvězda, or the Star Summer Palace, is a Renaissance villa in Liboc, about 4 miles (7 km) west of the center of Prague. King Ferdinand I founded the surrounding game reserve in 1530 and commissioned his younger son, Ferdinand II, Archduke of Austria, to build the villa. The article names no architect, materials or dimensions.
The Archduke laid the foundations on June 27, 1555, and construction was completed three years later. The villa is shaped as a six-pointed star, which gives the villa and the reserve their name.
The Battle of White Mountain took place nearby, and a model of it is in the basement. The villa hosts cultural and social events, exhibitions and concerts and is open to the public. Since 1962 the reserve, villa and nearby battlefield have been protected as a national cultural monument.
