The Hôtel Lutetia stands at 45 Boulevard Raspail in Paris's Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, beside Sèvres-Babylone metro station. Louis-Charles Boileau and Henri Tauzin built it in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style. The Boucicaut family, owners of the Bon Marché department store across the street, established it. Guests have included Pablo Picasso, Charles de Gaulle and Josephine Baker, and James Joyce stayed in early 1940, his last Paris address.
After Germany occupied Paris in 1940, the Abwehr requisitioned the hotel to house German officers. After the liberation in 1944, it served as a repatriation center for prisoners of war, displaced persons and camp survivors.
The hotel closed in 2014 for renovation and reopened in July 2018. It was rebranded Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris in April 2025.
