The Hotel Galvez stands at 2024 Seawall Boulevard in Galveston, Texas. Local leaders began planning a hotel in 1898 after a fire destroyed the Beach Hotel, and the 1900 hurricane, which killed about 6,000 people, accelerated those plans. Afterward, engineers recommended a concrete seawall, which was built to 17 feet, and the land behind it was raised about 16.5 feet, including the former Beach Hotel site where the Galvez now stands.
Mauran and Russell of St. Louis designed the hotel, combining Mission Revival and Spanish Revival styles. It has six stories of stucco-covered brick, round archways, mission parapets and a Ludowici tile roof. It opened in June 1911.
The Coast Guard occupied it during World War II, and Hurricane Ike damaged it in 2008. It was renamed Grand Galvez Resort and Spa in 2021 and has 226 rooms.
