The Société des Bains de Mer opened the Hôtel de Paris in 1864 as part of the development of Monaco. Godinot de la Bretonnerie designed the original building in 1862. It had two stories, and Jules Dutrou expanded it significantly in 1865. Édouard Niermans remodeled the public rooms in 1908.

It stands on the Place du Casino in Monte Carlo. The article describes the style as Belle Époque. The hotel has 99 rooms and several restaurants, including Le Louis XV, which holds three Michelin stars.

It reopened in March 2019 after a $280 million renovation that took more than four years. The hotel has appeared in films, including Never Say Never Again, GoldenEye and Iron Man 2, and it was a favorite shooting location of the photographer Helmut Newton.
