Louis XV commissioned Ange-Jacques Gabriel to design two identical stone palaces on the Place de la Concorde, built in 1758. The Duke of Aumont was the first occupant of this one. The Crillon family acquired it in 1788, and the state confiscated it in 1791. The Société du Louvre bought it in 1906 and converted it into a hotel. Walter-André Destailleur supervised a two-year refurbishment, and the hotel opened on March 11, 1909.

The Salon des Aigles was built in 1775. A renovation from March 2013 to July 5, 2017, reported at 200 million euros, was led by Aline Asmar d'Amman, with Karl Lagerfeld designing the Grands Appartements. It has 78 rooms and 46 suites.

It has been a monument historique since 1900. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts operates it.
