The infobox names Garol Isakovich as architect and lists Stripped Classicism, while the body names neither. Work began on September 2, 1973, and the mausoleum was inaugurated on August 29, 1975. The body says the design was inspired by Lenin's Mausoleum in Moscow but includes Vietnamese elements such as a sloping roof.
The structure is 71 feet (21.6 m) high and 135 feet (41.2 m) wide, though the body also gives each side as 98 feet (30 m). The exterior is grey granite. An inscription at the top uses dark red jade from Cao Bằng, the front hall has pink-veined marble, and the chamber wall carries flags of 4,000 pieces of ruby stone from Thanh Hóa.
Two grandstands, each 213 feet (65 m) long, flank the plaza for ceremonies. Entry is free, and it is open on five mornings a week, closed Mondays, Fridays and for annual maintenance. Visitors must dress modestly, turn off phones, and carry no cameras.
