The complex stands on the west bank of the Larnaca Salt Lake, about 4 miles (6 km) southwest of Larnaca, and includes a mosque, a mausoleum, a cemetery and living quarters. The article names no architect, and credits the first structure to Sheikh Hasan, to a governor named Ali Agha, or to Seyyid Mehmed Emin Efendi, depending on the source.
The Ottoman mosque is square with a balcony, built of yellow stone blocks, with two domes and one minaret that was repaired in 1959. Umm Haram's tomb lies behind the qibla wall, with an inscription dated 1760. The entry gate carries an inscription of March 4, 1813, and one account says the mosque was completed in November 1817.
The article ranks the site third or fourth holiest in Islam, depending on the source. It lies in the island's Greek sector, so pilgrimage visits are infrequent.
