The Great Synagogue of Tel Aviv was financed by Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, for a congregation established in 1913. Richard Michael won the 1914 competition but was replaced when World War I broke out. The article credits Yehuda Magidovitch with the plans, and the infobox credits Alexander Baerwald with the drawings. The cornerstone for the Allenby Street building was laid in November 1921.
The article gives the completion date as 1925 in one place and 1926 in another. The style is Art Deco. It is built of concrete, glass and steel, with one large dome and stained glass windows replicating those lost in European synagogues during the Holocaust. A 1969 renovation added a modernist arched facade.
A restoration to the 1920s appearance began in 2016 and is expected to finish in 2027. The main sanctuary is mainly used for weddings and special occasions.
