Construction of the Great Mosque of Adana began in 1513 under Ramazanoğlu Halil Bey and was completed in 1541 under his son Piri Mehmet Paşa. The rectangular plan measures about 113 by 107 feet (34.5 by 32.5 meters), and it was the largest mosque in Adana for about 450 years. The style combines Mamluk, Seljuk and Ottoman elements, and the western entrance has a conical stalactite roof with Seljuk features.
The prayer hall has two aisles of five bays, with columns supporting semi-pointed arches. The mihrab and qibla wall have Iznik tiles, and the mihrab is framed in black marble. The minaret has a covered balcony and Mamluk influence.
A madrasah on the east side has dervish cells and a two-domed classroom, and a tiled mausoleum holds Halil Bey. The 1998 earthquake damaged the mosque, and restoration finished in 2004.
