Alemparte Barreda & Asociados, César Pelli's firm and Watt International designed the tower for Cencosud, and Salfa Corp. built it. Construction began in June 2006, paused in January 2009 during the Great Recession, resumed on December 17, 2009 and topped out at 300 meters on February 14, 2012. It was completed in 2013.

The architectural height is 984 feet (300 m). The infobox gives 62 floors above ground and six below, while the text says 64. It is the tallest building in South America. The article dates its Chilean record to both 2010 and 2012.

The Sky Costanera observation deck, on floors 61 and 62, opened on August 11, 2015 with 360-degree views of Santiago. The article gives no hours or ticket details, and names no structural material or style.
