The article states neither the builders nor the date. The church is a cross-in-square temple with three rectangular arms and one rounded arm containing the apse, clad in dark-grey stone. It sits at 7,120 feet (2,170 m) on the right bank of the Chkheri River, a left tributary of the Terek, below Mount Kazbek, near Stepantsminda.
A belltower stands to the south, with the entrance to the ensemble at its base, and a wall surrounds the church. The church has two entrances, south and west, and one window in each arm. The article gives five windows for the tholobate in one passage and ten windows of the dome in another, and does not reconcile them.
Only traces of the original murals remain. The article gives no dimensions and describes no restorations, changes or visiting arrangements.
