Construction began around 1200 in Romanesque style, and Gothic work continued from about 1230. The infobox gives 1200 as the founding date, although the text says the minster partly sits on foundations of a church of 1120. The tower was completed in 1330. The article names no architect.
The tower is 381 feet (116 m) tall. It is nearly square at the base, with a twelve-sided star gallery, then octagonal, and it tapers to the spire. The Hosanna bell of 1258 weighs 3,290 kilograms, and the bell count is given as both 16 and 19.
The minster survived the November 1944 raids that destroyed houses around the market. The article credits lead anchors joining the spire sections, and the spire windows had been removed beforehand. Nave windows donated by guilds include deep reds from suspended gold nanoparticles.
