Sanjak-bey Ferhad Pasha Sokolović commissioned the mosque, which was completed in 1579. The architect is unknown, and the article says it was most probably designed by a pupil of Mimar Sinan. It calls the style classical Ottoman and compares it to Sinan's Muradiye Mosque in Manisa.

It is modest in scale, 59 feet (18 m) wide and 46 feet (14 m) long, with a single dome 59 feet (18 m) high and one minaret. The minaret was 41 meters in the infobox and 43 meters (141 feet) in the text. The ensemble had a courtyard, graveyard, a fountain, three turbes and a surrounding wall.

The mosque was demolished on the night of May 6 and 7, 1993, and the article attributes the order to Republika Srpska authorities. Reconstruction took about nine years, and it reopened on May 7, 2016.
