Nawab Sir Viqar-ul-Umra, prime minister of Hyderabad State, built Falaknuma Palace. The English architect William Ward Marrett designed it. The foundation stone was laid on March 3, 1884, and the infobox gives completion as 1893. At completion it was the tallest building in Hyderabad. The plan is shaped like a scorpion, with two wings spread to the north. The article says Italian and Tudor influences, a claim it marks as needing a citation. It has 60 rooms and 22 halls on a 13-hectare site.

The sixth Nizam received it around 1897 to 1898 and used it as a royal guest house. Visitors included King George V and Tsar Nicholas II.

Taj Hotels restored it from 2000 and opened it as a luxury hotel in November 2010.
