The architects W & TR Milburn designed the Dominion Theatre in London. Construction began in March 1928, and the theater opened on October 3, 1929. That was a build time of roughly nineteen months for a large West End venue.
The article describes the style as Renaissance Revival. In 1988 the building was given Grade II listed status, which protects it as a structure of special interest in England and Wales.
The theater is owned by Nederlander. As a listed building that is still in use, it shows how a historic playhouse can keep its original character while continuing to operate as a working venue for audiences today, more than ninety years after its opening night.
