Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers designed the tower for China International Trust and Investment (CITIC). Maunsell AECOM was the structural engineer, and a Kumagai Gammon joint venture was the main contractor. Construction began in 1993, and the tower was completed in June 1997.

The infobox gives an architectural height of 1,280 feet (390.2 m), while the lead says 1,283 feet (391 m). The roof is at 1,056 feet (321.9 m) and the top floor at 974 feet (296.9 m). It has 80 floors, 36 elevators and 2.2 million square feet (205,239 m²) of floor area. Two antenna-like spires crown it.

Until Trump Tower Chicago was completed, it was the tallest concrete building in the world. It is an office tower in Tianhe District, part of a complex with two 38-story residential buildings. The article names no architectural style.
