The Church of St. Anne stands at 13 św. Anny Street in Kraków's Old Town and is the university collegiate church. It was first mentioned in 1381, and after a fire in 1407 King Władysław II Jagiełło had it rebuilt in the Gothic style and gave the Jagiellonian University the right to nominate its priest.
The Gothic building was demolished in 1689 because it was too small for the growing cult of St. John Cantius, patron saint of the university, who is buried there. The Baroque church was built from 1689 to 1705 to a design by Tylman van Gameren, modeled on Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome. Baldassarre Fontana made the stucco.
It is a leading example of Polish Baroque, part of the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Kraków and a Historic Monument of Poland.
