The article attributes the original stone castle, built in the 13th century, to Tiburtius Rosd or his descendants, and says the attribution is uncertain. It names no architect and no style. The castle was part of a chain of frontier castles of the Kingdom of Hungary stretching from Pressburg to Žilina, in the Little Carpathians. In the first half of the 16th century it was completely rebuilt as a fortress, and it is described as stone.
The Pálffy family acquired the castle in 1588 and completed the fortress, which then became a representative noble castle. Fires damaged it several times, and the family repaired it each time. The Pálffys owned it until the Second World War.
It is now a museum. The article gives no current owner, opening details or heritage status.
