Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designed the tower and served as structural engineer for Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development, with Arabtec as main contractor. Construction started on August 19, 2006 and the tower opened on June 10, 2013. It was called Infinity Tower before opening.

The infobox gives a height of 1,005 feet (306.4 m). It lists 73 floors including five below ground, while the text says 75. Each floor is rotated 1.2 degrees around a cylindrical core, producing a 90-degree twist. It was the world's tallest twisted tower until Shanghai Tower passed it in February 2015.

Cast-in-place concrete columns carry titanium-colored metal panels, with staggered screens that block direct sun. A wall holding back Dubai Marina was breached on February 7, 2007, flooding the foundation site, and work paused for about a year and a half. The tower is residential, with seven lifts and a five-story parking garage behind it.
