Andrey Damyanov is the architect in the infobox, and the text names the head master as Andreja Damjanov of a master-builder family from Papradište, probably the same person. Construction began in 1863 and cost about 36,000 ducats, mostly paid by Sarajevo's Serb merchants. Sultan Abdülaziz and Prince Mihailo Obrenović each gave 500 ducats, and Tsar Alexander II sent craftsmen for the iconostasis.
The dedication, first set for May 1871, was postponed after a protest by local Muslims and held on July 20, 1872. The infobox gives completion as 1874.
The infobox gives the style as Baroque. It is a three-section basilica on a cross plan with five domes, the central one much larger. It is the cathedral of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and a Category I National Monument.
