The Cathedral of St Joseph in Sofia replaced a cathedral destroyed by Allied bombing raids during the Second World War. It was rebuilt at the same location. Pope John Paul II laid the foundation stone in 2002, and the cathedral was inaugurated and consecrated on May 21, 2006.

The article gives the length as 75 feet (23 meters), the width as 49 feet (15 meters) and the height as 62 feet (19 meters). The tower reaches 108 feet (33 meters). It holds up to 1,000 worshipers, with 350 seats. Its dimensions conflict slightly, since a main roof height of 75 feet (23 meters) is also given.

A wooden cross rises 23 feet (7 meters) over the altar, with an icon of Mary below it. The building is a co-cathedral of the Latin Diocese of Sofia and Plovdiv, with Masses in Bulgarian, Polish and English.
