The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Divine Providence in Chișinău was founded and completed in 1836. The architect was Avraam Melnikov, and the building is Neoclassical. Grants from Tsar Nicholas I of Russia paid for the construction.
When Soviet power arrived in 1944, parish activities stopped. The church closed in 1963, and worshippers went to a small chapel in the cemetery. The building was returned to the parish in 1989.
It hosted the Apostolic Administration of Moldova from 1993 and became the see of the newly established Diocese of Chișinău in 2001. The article reports restoration work between 2002 and 2004, though it marks that claim as needing a citation. Today it remains the seat of the Diocese of Chișinău.
