The castle and abbey are Romanesque. The keep stands isolated in front of the fortifications, linked by a wooden bridge, with a basement and five floors. The Torre de la Reina has three sets of twin-arched windows with columns the article links to Lombard and Mozarabic forms. The chapel of Saint Mary of Valverde received a vault at the end of the 11th century.
The outer curtain walls and eight towers date to the 13th or 14th century, and the infobox gives 1287. A major restoration came in 1913, with further work in the 1970s. The article gives no dimensions.
