César Pelli designed the tower, with Brennan Beer Gorman as architect of record, for the developer Rockrose, which subleased the site from the Carnegie Hall Corporation. Groundbreaking was on November 20, 1987, and it opened in September 1990. The infobox gives completion as 1991.

It rises 757 feet (231 m) and 60 floors. The facade is brick in 11 colors with cast-concrete decoration, inspired by Carnegie Hall, and the cornice is an open steel trellis. The structure is cast-in-place concrete with two joined core tubes. The critic Paul Goldberger called it creative historicism. The article does not name a style.

Carnegie Hall expanded into the base in April 1991. The tower has about 485,000 square feet of offices. TF Cornerstone is listed as owner.
