Grand Duke William IV had the old castle demolished and a new one built on the site. The Munich architect Max Ostenrieder and the local architect Pierre Funck-Eydt designed it. The article dates the demolition to 1906 and the work from 1907 to its completion on September 9, 1911. It states no style, dimensions or materials.

Nazi Germany occupied the castle in the Second World War, stole its most valuable artworks and altered the building for its own purposes. Restoration took several years, and the Grand Ducal family returned in 1964.

The castle passed to the Luxembourg government in 1934, which lets the Grand Ducal family use it as an official residence. The article says it may open to the public periodically in future, and gives no details.
