TFP Farrells designed the station with the Tianjin Design Institute. Reconstruction began on May 10, 2006, as soon as services ended at the old station, and the railway station reopened on August 1, 2008. The article says 4,000 workers built it in under three years. The infobox also lists September 28, 2009, which is the opening of the Line 4 subway station.

It is an enormous oval building that spreads like a ray. The site covers 79 acres (32 hectares) and the covered area is 3.4 million square feet (320,000 m²). The glass ceiling carries 3,246 solar panels, and construction used over 60,000 tons of steel and 490,000 cubic meters of concrete.

It has 24 railway platforms and handles about 30,000 passengers an hour. It is the terminus for high-speed trains to Tianjin and Shanghai. The article names no client or owner.
