Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates designed the tower, which Cousins Properties developed and Beers Construction built. Construction ran from 1991 to 1992, and the body says it took only 14 months. The infobox gives the cost as $150 million. The article calls the style Postmodern and reminiscent of Art Deco, and compares it to the Messeturm in Frankfurt.

It has 55 office stories and an architectural height of 1,023 feet (312 m), with the roof at 933 feet (284 m). A pyramid of open-lattice steel girders tops the flat roof, and its spire is clad mostly in 23-karat gold leaf. Yellow-orange sodium lighting makes it glow at night. The floor area is 1,312,980 square feet (121,980 m²).

The building stands at a 45-degree angle to the street grid on a site of over 3.7 acres (1.5 hectares). A $30 million lobby renovation was completed in 2014, and a $50 million program finished in 2025.
