Duke Frederick the Handsome founded the Augustinian Church in Vienna in 1327, with a cloister for the Augustinian friars. Dietrich Landtner designed it. The nave was built from 1330 to 1339, and the church was consecrated on November 1, 1349. It is part of the Hofburg complex.

The church is Gothic, with a Gothic interior added in the 18th century. The article estimates from satellite images that it is 279 feet (85 m) long and 66 feet (20 m) wide. Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg designed the Gothic Revival pulpit in 1784 and 1785.

Several Habsburg weddings took place here, including those of Maria Theresa in 1736 and Franz Joseph in 1854. Six Augustinian friars still live there.
