The Atigh Jameh Mosque in Shiraz was built under Amr-e Laith Saffari of the Saffarid dynasty to celebrate the reconquest of Shiraz from the Abbasids, and it likely replaced an earlier fire temple. Construction began in 889 or 890 and was completed in 894 or 895. The main structure is Saffarid, while the annex, courtyard and iwans are Safavid. Seventeenth-century additions gave it the present four-iwan courtyard form.
Its single dome and two turret-style minarets stand about 82 feet (25 meters) tall. At the center of the courtyard is the Khuda Khane, a kiosk for storing Qur'ans commissioned by Mahmud Shah, which was built in 1351 or 1352 and measures about 18 by 23 feet (5.5 by 7 meters) at its core. It was rebuilt between 1937 and 1954.
It has been on Iran's National Heritage List since 1932 and remains an active Friday mosque.
