Ibrahim Shah Sharqi built the Atala Mosque in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Construction began in 1376 and was completed in 1408, in the Indo-Islamic Sharqi style. It stands about 1,000 feet (300 meters) from the Shahi Qila, the Royal Fort, and about 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) from the Jama Mosque.
The complex covers a square about 258 feet (78.5 meters) on each side, with three large gateways. A main pishtaq, or monumental portal, leads into the mosque's iwan. The mosque is over 98 feet (30 meters) tall. The central dome rises about 56 feet (17 meters) but is hidden from the front by a tower about 75 feet (23 meters) high.
William Hodges sketched the mosque during his travels in 1780 to 1783 and included the sketch in his book Selected Views in India. It is an active mosque.
