Hadi Simaan of the firm AREP designed the tower, which is also called the Khalifa Sports Tower and the Doha Olympic Tower. The Ministry of Sports and Youth owns it, and Aspire Zone is the landlord. The infobox gives a September 2005 construction start and May 2007 completion, while the text says April 2005 and November 2007. It opened on May 30, 2007.

The tower is 980 feet (300 m) tall, with 36 floors and an observatory at 781 feet (238 m). A reinforced-concrete core 12 to 18 meters in diameter carries radiating cantilevered steel beams on every floor, under a glass-paneled facade. An elliptical pool sits 262 feet (80 m) above ground, cantilevered 39 feet (12 m) from the facade.

It houses a five-star hotel with 163 rooms, a sports museum, a health club and two restaurants, including a revolving one. The article states a cost of 133 million euros.
