The Ashkenazi Synagogue of Istanbul was completed in 1900, the same year its congregation was founded by Jews of Austrian origin. The site had held the Austrian Temple, built in 1831, until a fire destroyed it in 1866. The article does not name an architect or describe the style. It says the building is brick, with a dome.

It is the last of three synagogues built by Ashkenazim in Istanbul. Rabbi Dr. David Marcus led it until his death in 1938, and he also founded the Jewish school Bene Berit. Rabbi Mendy Chitrik has served as rabbi since 2003.

It is an active Orthodox synagogue in the Ashkenazi rite, and the only active Ashkenazi synagogue in Istanbul open to visits and prayer. Visits are possible on weekday mornings.
