The brothers Egid Quirin Asam, a sculptor, and Cosmas Damian Asam, a painter, built the church as their private chapel, working as independent contractors. Construction ran from 1733 to 1746. The article calls it one of the most important buildings of southern German Late Baroque, and the exterior stucco is typical of South German rococo.

The site is about 72 by 26 feet (22 by 8 m). Inside are a ceiling fresco of the Life of Saint Nepomuk and four spiral columns framing the high altar. Ignaz Günther added two angels later. The article names no structural materials. The brothers bought four houses for the site, demolished two, and kept one southern and one northern house.

A bomb attack in 1944 heavily damaged the choir. Interior restoration from 1975 to 1983 reconstructed a hypothetical original appearance. It functions as a church.
