Jan Inge Hovig drew the plans for Tromsdalen Church, nicknamed the Arctic Cathedral, though the article stresses that it is a parish church and not a cathedral. Groundbreaking was on April 1, 1964, and Bishop Monrad Norderval consecrated it on November 19, 1965. The contractor was Ing. F. Selmer A/S Tromsø.

The article calls it a modernist long church. The infobox gives cast-in-place aluminium-coated concrete panels, while the text says it is built mainly of concrete. The design is believed to refer to the twin-peaked island of Håja nearby. The article gives no building measurements. It seats about 600.

Victor Sparre made a glass mosaic, The Return of Christ, for the eastern side in 1972. An organ with three manuals, 42 stops and 2,940 pipes by Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri was installed in 2005. The church is listed as a protected building. The article gives the cost as 4,169,815 kroner and lists no visiting hours.
