The Cathedral of Our Lady is Gothic. Construction began in 1352, and the first stage ended in 1521, nearly 170 years later. The cathedral has never been fully completed, although the infobox gives 1521 as completion. Jan and Pieter Appelmans are named as architects.

The cathedral is 390 feet (120 m) long and 246 feet (75 m) wide, with a nave width of 176 feet (53.5 m), and holds 25,000 people. The finished spire is 404 feet (123 m), the tallest church tower in the Benelux. The second tower was never completed. The article calls it the largest Gothic church in Belgium.

It holds paintings by Rubens: The Raising of the Cross from 1610 and 1611, The Descent from the Cross from 1612 to 1614, and The Assumption of the Virgin from 1626. Its belfry is part of the Belfries of Belgium and France, inscribed by UNESCO in 1999.
