Anfield opened in 1884. The land was owned by John Orrell, who lent the pitch to Everton for a small rent. Archibald Leitch designed the 1895 stand on the site of the present Main Stand. The Kop was rebuilt in 1928 to hold 30,000 standing spectators and again in 1994 and 1995 as a single-tier, all-seated stand.

The Main Stand's lower section dates from 1906. The three-tier stand was completed in 2016, using about 1.8 million bricks and blocks, and opened on September 9, 2016. The Anfield Road End was rebuilt in 1965, given a second tier in 1998, and extended in 2024 with 7,000 seats.

The infobox gives a capacity of 61,276, while the text says 60,725 seats. The record attendance is 61,905, set on February 2, 1952. The Hillsborough memorial has an eternal flame, and the club museum is in the Kop.
