The Admiralspalast on Friedrichstraße in Berlin-Mitte opened in 1910 as part of a large leisure complex on the former site of the 1873 Admiralsgarten bath house. The complex included a skating rink, a public bath, bowling alleys, a café and a cinema. After the First World War it became a revue theatre, opening with Walter Kollo's Drunter und drüber and later hosting operettas.
It suffered little bombing damage in the Second World War and housed the Berlin State Opera until the State Opera House was rebuilt in 1955. On April 21 and 22, 1946, the SPD and KPD in the Soviet occupation zone held a convention there and merged into the Socialist Unity Party of Germany.
The Metropol-Theater closed in 1997, and the Berlin Senate listed the building in 2002. It reopened on August 11, 2006 and seats 1,756.
