Frank Gehry and Gehry Partners designed the tower for Forest City Ratner, with WSP Cantor Seinuk as lead structural engineer. It opened in February 2011. It rises 870 feet (265.2 m) and 76 stories, a T-shaped tower of brushed stainless steel on a six-story brick podium, with setbacks at the 7th, 24th, 40th and 52nd floors.
The article names no style. The facade is an undulating curtain wall on a reinforced concrete frame, using about 10,500 custom stainless steel panels made in Japan, of which about 2,000 are identical. Gehry altered the wall to suit window-washing rigs.
It has 899 rental apartments, and a public school, P.S. 397, occupies the lower floors. The Emporis Skyscraper Award for 2011 went to it. Blackstone is reported to have bought it for 930 million dollars.
